Mark the kick zone where the grip wax will be applied. Then lightly sand with #80 or
#100 grit sandpaper. The grip wax will adhere better to the ski when sanded.
Select and apply a cold kick wax (i.e., Swix polar, Toko mint or Rode special green), iron in and let the wax cool 15 minutes. This process will increase contact between base and wax, and the wax will wear longer.
Select and apply the actual kick wax of the day. Make another pass with the warm iron.
Cool and cork smooth.
Apply 4-8 more thin even layers of grip wax. Cork after each layer.
Note: You can build the layers like a "pryamid" -- the last layers are shorter so you have the most wax under the foot. You can wax thick in the middle of the wax pocket
without ruining the glide.
Thoroughly cork each layer of wax.
When applying the wax, leave approximately 2 cm at the ends of the kick zone.
When corking the wax, it will still cover the full zone.
Mark the wax pocket where the grip wax will be applied.
